Did someone say shopping was great here???
I visited a variety of stores here in Sri Lanka and was really impressed to see stores selling fair trade and natural products. I remember visiting a store called Barefoot here and speaking to the owner. He was very knowledgeable about his craft. As he made the sale, he explained his products to me. What was impressive was that they work exclusively with women. It really resonated with me mainly because part of my three-week mandate here is to ensure that the training I do involves youth and women specifically.
I bought a variety of trinkets there and I intend to return for my cotton saree. Shopping overall here is good. I managed, in good Michelle fashion, to fill my suitcase.
This means I’ll have to offload some of the things I brought with me. I had lots of company with me. We also had a fabulous driver, Kumar, who had more patience than Job. He parked at the location and waited for three women to finish shopping. He always wore a smile. What an amazing fella he was. WUSC is very lucky to have him for sure.
Here are the two cotton shirts I bought here. They are a beautiful fit.
