My name is Meagan Shantz and I am from Oakville, Ontario. I am in my undergraduate studies at the University of Waterloo studying International Development. For the past 8 months (September 2014 – April 2015), I have been working as a CECI volunteer intern in Kathmandu, Nepal at Fair Trade Group Nepal.
As an intern, I had the opportunity to communicate with fair trade producers, directors, and conduct an environmental assessment. I have also helped design posters and plan events that Fair Trade Group Nepal organized. I was happy to have this placement because I am passionate about grassroots community development that empowers people to improve their livelihoods. I chose to go overseas with CECI and WUSC’s Uniterra program because I want to make a difference in the developing world and believe this internship helped me to see the real world of NGOs and life as a development practitioner.
