MVIWATA (in Kiswahili: Mtando wa Vikundi vya Wakulima Tanzania) is a farmers networking organisation that provides a platform for smallholder farmers to connect with each other and receive various trainings in important subjects such as clime change mitigation, risk management, HIV/AIDS, and gender equality. The persona of MVIWATA is “those who can defend the farmers are the farmers themselves”. As a Student Without Borders (SWB) volunteer for the Uniterra program, I will be providing my support in research, advocacy and lobbying for MVIWATA at a local office located in Moshi, Tanzania. The duration of my mandate is from September 2017 – April 2018.
